Fraggle re-creation

DISSERTATION PROJECT AND PUPPET FABRICATION

"Making of Fraggle"

My re-creation of a Fraggle was a part of my third year dissertation at the Norwich University art of 2023 to 2024. This project aimed to minic mimicry of traditional Hand of rod fabrication methodology and techniques and explore the impact of cultural perceptions on puppet fabrication design choices and the subsequent psychological.

To create the Fraggle I originally started with a hand sculpted mould of the face writing a simplified paper pattern , the use of reticulated phone were constructed for the head and body, these parts were fused together using barge glue, a machine stitched felt covered the head, and limbs snd  Antron fleece that was hand died using hair dye was attached to the body.

The facial features were constructed from recycled ping-pong balls, the mouth plate plate old Tupperware box, the rods were constructed out of steel poles and the puppets hair was a mixture of orange ostrich feathers and purple wool.

This project utilised both the traditional methodologies of Jim Henson and information I required through interviewing Iestyn Evans from Talk To The Hand Studios.
