Agathokakological Box

Adaptation of Pandora’s Box Short film 2022

My adaptation of Pandora’s Box reimagines the box itself as the central protagonist, rather than Pandora. This approach allows for an exploration of anthropomorphic human characteristics in an object, akin to the themes found in classic Aesop's fables, but diverging from the traditional use of animals. In the original tale, Pandora’s box serves as a magical artifact; I have transformed it into a sentient television, shaped by centuries of bearing the hopes and sorrows of humanity.

Agathokakological, or Agath, is a small TV puppet. The puppet itself is made with lightweight hard foam to form the skeleton. The outside texture is inspired by ancient Greek jars, achieved by mixing chalk and acrylic paint together to give Agath a weathered look. The imagery on the side of the puppet is inspired by archaic art styles. Finally, the puppet itself uses a replacement animation method for the character's feet and legs, allowing them to retract into the body.
